Norway’s stance on Internet gaming has generally been prohibitive. Norsk Tipping, the country’s state gambling monopoly is one of the few organizations allowed to offer a range of games on the Internet. Online gambling at the approved sites is restricted to bettors residing within the country’s borders. In November 2007, the Norwegian government proposed an amendment to existing gambling laws that would prohibit online gaming accounts to be credited from major payment methods. The proposal passed in January 2009 and is expected to go into effect by the end of the year.
